Maratha Reservation Movement: Fadnavis Warned of Consequences if Demands Not Met
Jalna: Manoj Jarange Patil, leader of the Maratha reservation movement, has warned Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that he will be held responsible if the Maratha community does not receive reservation benefits this time around. Jarange Patil announced that he will begin a hunger strike at 12 am tonight to press for the community's demands, including reservation under Other Backward Classes (OBC), inclusion of Sagesoyari in the reservation, and consideration of the three-gazette ratio with Hyderabad.
No More Political Commentary
At a press conference earlier, Jarange Patil cautioned the state government, stating that the movement will not engage in political commentary henceforth. "We will start the hunger strike again, and our only demand is that the Maratha community should get reservation. We have no interest in politics. However, if we want to avoid politics, our demands should be accepted." He clarified that the movement is not affiliated with any elections.
Support for Dhangar Community
Jarange Patil also expressed support for the Dhangar community's demand to be included in Scheduled Tribes. He welcomed the state government's decision to issue a government order recognizing Dhangar, Dhangad, and Dhankhad as a single entity. He appealed to the Maratha community to support the Dhangar community's demand and advised Dhangar leaders to avoid confrontations with senior minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who allegedly plans to create riots.
The Maratha reservation movement has been actively seeking recognition and benefits for the community, and this latest development highlights the ongoing struggle for social and economic equality.
