Demand to open highways blocked due to farmers' protest - Supreme Court rejects petition

A petition has been filed in the apex court by a social activist resident of Punjab. The petition states that farmers and farmer organizations have blocked the entire national and state highways in Punjab indefinitely.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding the opening of highways blocked due to farmers' protest. According to the December 9 cause list uploaded on the apex court's website, a bench led by Justice Suryakant will hear the petition.

What is in the petition?

The petition has appealed to the court to direct the Center and other responsible to immediately open the national and state highways blocked due to farmers' protest in Punjab. In fact, farmers have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after the security forces stopped the Delhi march under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.

Social worker approached the apex court

A petition has been filed in the apex court on behalf of a social worker resident of Punjab. The petition states that farmers and farmer organizations are being prevented from going to Delhi. After this, they have blocked the entire national and state highways in Punjab indefinitely. In such a situation, the Center and others should be directed to lift the ban on farmers' demonstration and ensure that the national highways and railway tracks are not blocked by the agitating farmers.

This argument was made

The petition states that the people of Punjab and neighboring states are facing great difficulty. They are not able to reach hospitals from time to time in case of emergency medical situation, as ambulances are also being stopped on national and state highways across the state of Punjab.
