Mumbai : Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale has strongly condemned the desecration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue in Amritsar, Punjab, and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
In a statement, Athawale held Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responsible for the incident, stating that maintaining law and order and protecting statues of prominent figures is the state government's responsibility.
"The desecration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue in Amritsar is a highly condemnable act. It is the responsibility of the state government to protect the statues of great men like Dr. Ambedkar," Athawale said.
Athawale demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and severe punishment for the accused. He also appealed to Republican workers in Punjab and Maharashtra to protest the incident.
"I demand that the Punjab government conduct a thorough investigation into the desecration of Dr. Ambedkar's statue and punish the accused severely. I also appeal to Republican workers in Punjab and Maharashtra to protest this incident," Athawale said.
The Republican Party has announced that Athawale will visit the site of the desecration on January 29.
"The Republican Party strongly condemns the desecration of Dr. Ambedkar's statue in Amritsar. Our national president, Ramdas Athawale, will visit the site of the desecration on January 29," said a party spokesperson.
