India and China Move Towards Resolving Border Dispute - Dr. S. Jaishankar

In a significant development, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha that the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is normal, and efforts are being made to restore peace. This comes after decades of negotiations to resolve the border issue between India and China.

According to Jaishankar, both countries are committed to improving the situation on the border, and no party will tamper with the situation. All issues will be resolved through consensus. The Foreign Minister also credited the Army for the restoration of the LAC.

Jaishankar emphasized that India-China relations cannot remain normal without peace on the border. He also mentioned that bilateral discussions were held to arrive at a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable framework for the settlement of the border dispute.

The development is a significant step towards resolving the border dispute, which has been ongoing for decades. The dispute began in 2020 when peace and harmony in the border areas were disrupted following Chinese actions. Since then, there have been several clashes between the two countries, including the deadly clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020.

In a positive move, the armies of both countries withdrew from the disputed area in Ladakh, and reconciled their belongings from the disputed areas of Depsang and Demchok.

The improvement in relations between India and China is a welcome development, and it is hoped that the two countries will continue to work towards a mutually acceptable solution to the border dispute.
