Delhi : The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice DY Chandrachud has recommended Advocate Arun Kumar for appointment as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium also includes Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph.
The Supreme Court Collegium issued a proposal
In a resolution issued in connection with this recommendation, the Supreme Court Collegium said that it had considered a proposal in his name on January 17, 2023, though based on a report by the Intelligence Bureau, the collegium had appointed Advocate Arun Kumar. That the recommendation for promotion was deferred. However, later on May 3, 2023, the Justice Department sent the Supreme Court an Intelligence Bureau report dated February 1, 2023. It said that he had no input, other than the one already given, to verify the Intelligence Bureau's report.
In the proposal related to appointment of Arun Kumar as a judge of Allahabad High Court, the Supreme Court Collegium has said that three advisory judges included in the collegium gave a positive opinion about Arun Kumar, while another advisory judge did not express any opinion.
CM Yogi and Governor agreed on the recommendation
It is significant that the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Governor of the state of Uttar Pradesh have agreed to this recommendation of the collegium.
