Bahujan Samaj Party' supremo Mayawati criticized the BJP government for imposing black laws on farmers while addressing a Brahmin convention. He also assured that if his party came to power in the state, a law would be enacted to double the income of farmers. She also said that the party will repeat the history of 2007.
The Brahmin community dominates the politics of Uttar Pradesh. The number of Brahmin voters in the state is about 13 percent. In some assembly constituencies, the figure is around 20 per cent. In 2007, BSP had given tickets to 86 Brahmin candidates. In that election, 56 Brahmin candidates won. An attempt was made by the BSP to reconcile the Brahmin, Dalit and Muslim voters.
Brahmin voters are angry with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for the last 3 years. They complains that Brahmins are not adequately represented in the yogi government. With the exception of two of the eight ministers who have been given ministerial posts, others have been given less important accounts. The Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the Congress are trying to take advantage of this resentment.
