Bangladesh's Trade route through India closed; What is the Modi government's order?

India / Bangladesh: The Indian government has taken an important decision regarding Bangladesh. This decision has come as a big shock to Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh had recently met in Thailand. India has taken this shocking decision while this development was still fresh. In fact, India has closed the transshipment facility given to Bangladesh. This may affect Bangladesh's trade with Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.

This facility allowed export cargo from Bangladesh to other countries using Indian land customs stations through ports and airport roads. First, exporters from India had demanded that the central government withdraw this facility from Bangladesh. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has issued a circular in this regard.

Bangladesh's exports via India

The board has cancelled the previous order dated June 29, 2020. In this, goods coming from Bangladesh were allowed to be sent to other countries via India. These goods were reaching Indian airports and ports via land. The purpose behind this was that Bangladesh could export its goods to Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar without any problems.

But after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, relations between the two countries have deteriorated. This was started by the current Bangladesh government. In an attempt to create a dilemma for India, Bangladesh has now started leaning towards China. Ajay Sahai, Director General of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations, said that now there will be more air capacity for our cargo.

Facility closed after the new order

AEPC Chairman Sudhir Sekhari said that about 20 to 30 loaded trucks arrive in Delhi every day. This slows down the movement of cargo. Airlines take advantage of this situation. Due to this, the fares of air transport continue to increase. The Global Trade Research Initiative says that this facility has been closed immediately after the new order. Goods that have already arrived in India will be allowed to leave as per the previous rules.
