MEMORIAL VIGILANCE COMMITTEE ALLEGES MISMANAGEMENT IN DR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MEMORIAL CONSTRUCTION!
Mumbai : The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Dakshata Samiti today raised serious concerns about the mismanagement and lack of transparency in the construction of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mill in Mumbai.
The committee alleged that the selection of sculptors and architects for the memorial was arbitrary, bypassing the competitive selection process. They claimed that the bureaucrats in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) showed favouritism to certain individuals, compromising the quality and integrity of the project.
At a press conference, the committee members questioned the defective statue of Dr. Ambedkar, citing it as an example of the substandard work being carried out. They demanded that a new sculptor be appointed to create a worthy statue of Dr. Ambedkar.
The many flaws in the statue to be set up at Indu Milll, as pointed out by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Dakshata Samiti, The statue looks disproportionate
1) There should be a lift in the right side of the suit's jacket with the raising of the right hand, which does not appear in the statue
2) The jacket on the statue is body hugging, Dr Ambedkar wore his jacket loose. Hence the folds on the jacket must show
3) The jacket's pockets are too low. They should have been aligned with the second button
4) The boots are shapeless
5) The distance between the right thumb and other fingers is too wide
6) Dr Ambedkar's face is distorted, not consistent with his real face
7) The way the book is held lacks aesthetics
8) Dr Ambedkar wore his trousers high. This is much lower.
9) There are unnecessary and incorrect folds shown in the trousers.
10) There is a lot of distance between his legs.
The committee also expressed disappointment over the underutilisation of the 12.5-acre plot allocated for the international memorial. They pointed out that the design of the memorial fails to make optimal use of the available land, resulting in a lacklustre tribute to Dr. Ambedkar's legacy.
Furthermore, the committee revealed that dozens of designs for the memorial were submitted by architects, but were discarded in favor of Shashi Prabhu's design, despite his negative track record. They questioned why Prabhu's design was selected, given his previous work on the Chaityastupa was rejected by the Municipal Corporation.
The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Dakshata Samiti has decided to take their concerns to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. A delegation from the committee will soon meet Modi to request his attention to the memorial's development, drawing parallels with the prestigious statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kevadia, Gujarat.
The press conference was attended by prominent members of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Dakshata Samiti including Adv. Dr. Suresh Mane, Suresh Kedare, Diwakar Shejwal, Baburao Mane, Prabuddha Sathe, Rajaram Patil, Ganesh Kamble, Uttamrao Gaikwad, Rahul Gaikwad, Milind Surve, Ravi Garud, Satish Dongre, and Adv. 1. Appointment of a new sculptor to create a worthy statue of Dr. Ambedkar.
2. Optimal utilization of the 12.5-acre plot allocated for the international memorial.
3. Transparency in the selection process for architects and sculptors.
