"We Might Die Tomorrow": Aamir Khan Reflects On His Last Decade In Bollywood
Aamir Khan, one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors, has revealed that he feels these next 10 years could be the final stretch of his active career in the industry. With Laapataa Ladies making its way as India’s official entry for the Oscars this year, Aamir, as the producer, and his ex-wife Kiran Rao, as the director, have been receiving a lot of love for the film.

In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir Khan, 59, opened up about his decision to dive into six new projects, even though he had once seriously considered walking away from films. Reflecting on his journey, Aamir admitted that the idea of retiring first came to him during the pandemic. But it was the gentle push from his family, particularly his kids, Junaid and Ira Khan, that convinced him to rethink. After stepping back for a while following the mixed reception of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, Aamir came back to the screen with a fresh perspective and a renewed drive to make an impact.

Aamir revealed, "You can’t trust life; we might die tomorrow." He shared that at 59, he felt the urgency to make the most of his remaining years in the industry, considering that he has roughly a decade of productive years ahead of him before turning 70. He also expressed his desire to support the next generation of talent—writers, directors, and other creative minds.
Further, Aamir recalled a conversation with his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, who disagreed with his view of a limited career span, pointing out that Clint Eastwood was still going strong in his 90s. However, Aamir humorously pointed out that Eastwood is one of the rare exceptions and not the norm. He joked about his dream of retiring one day, reminiscing about how his daughter joked that he would drive the family crazy if he spent all his time with them.

Aamir is currently working on the spiritual sequel to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par we have all been waiting for, Sitaare Zameen Par. Unlike its emotional predecessor, the new film is described as a humorous take on similar themes of people with different abilities, with Aamir noting that it will bring more laughter than tears.
