Bangladesh's Drift Towards Extremism Sparks Concerns for India

In a disturbing development, Bangladesh's recent shift towards extremism has raised alarms in India, sparking concerns about regional stability and national security.

Following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's government, Bangladesh has increasingly aligned itself with Pakistan, fostering an environment conducive to anti-India activities. The country's soil is being utilized to harbor terrorist groups, posing a significant threat to India.

Bangladesh's purchase of drones from Turkey and construction of military installations along the border have heightened tensions. Furthermore, a social media-driven boycott of Indian products is underway, aimed at weakening India's economy. Bangladesh has also announced plans to import sugar from Pakistan and cultivate its own chillies and papaya.

Sheikh Hasina's previous government had taken steps to curb terrorism and anti-India activities. However, the current regime's indifference has emboldened extremist elements, as evidenced by the desecration of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statue and removal of his image from currency notes.

India is closely monitoring the situation, with officials urging diplomatic engagement, strengthened border security, counter-propaganda efforts and economic diplomacy to mitigate the emerging threat.
