Kolhapur : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar addressed a press conference in Kolhapur today, clarifying the party's stance on the Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming state elections.
Pawar emphasized that the NCP does not insist on announcing a Chief Ministerial candidate at present. "It's not right to discuss this issue now. What's important is to provide a stable government after gaining popular support. The Chief Minister will be decided based on the strength of numbers after the election," he stated.
Pawar made it clear that the party with the most numerical strength will have the right to claim the Chief Minister's post. "Each party has the right to present its position. If the Sangh says BJP should be the Chief Minister, that's their idea. We will present our position after the election and decide on the Chief Minister accordingly," he added.
Pawar's comments come amidst demands from the Thackeray group in the Mahavikas Aghadi to announce a Chief Ministerial candidate. However, Congress leaders have been hesitant to support this demand. Pawar reiterated that the NCP's focus is on changing the power dynamics in the state and providing people with a choice, rather than projecting a individual as the Chief Minister.
"We aim for power change, not personal gain. There is no need for this issue (Chief Ministerial candidate) now. There is no question of me becoming the Chief Minister," Pawar clarified.
